Fiber Optic Technician

CFOT®—Certified Fiber Optic Technician—is the primary FOA (Fiber Optic Association) certification for all fiber optic technicians. CFOTs have a broad knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) in fiber optics that can be applied to almost any job—design, installation, or operation—and for almost any application using fiber optic communications. This training program involves about 24 hours on F2F training involving both theory and hands-on applications and includes participants sitting for the certification exam by FOA.

Leadership Certificate for Healthcare Professionals

Participants in this 40-hour training will gain leadership and management skills to excel as new or emerging leaders in healthcare. Students completing the program will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Mini MBA

The noncredit Mini MBA Program will help you become a more effective manager. Eberly College of Business professors will provide a comprehensive overview of business disciplines along with the latest management theory. You’ll also develop team-building and problem-solving skills that will provide you with an edge in today's competitive environment. Participants are not required to have formal business education or previously earned a college degree.

Basic Life Support CPR

The American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. The training reflects science and education from the AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. School Security Personnel Basic Training Program

The School Security Personnel Basic Training Course is a non-degree certificate program offered through the IUP Criminal Justice Training Center. This 40-hour program is specifically designed to satisfy the requirements for the PA Act 67 of 2019. Successful completion of this program will certify students to work in Pennsylvania schools in roles like School Police Officer, School Resource Officer, and School Security Officer.

Emergency Medical Responder

This program is primarily designed for future EMS personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. Participants who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs EMR certification exams for Pennsylvania and national certification.

Emergency Medical Technician

This program is primarily designed for future Emergency Medical Services personnel, but is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, and more. Participants who successfully complete the EMT program are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs exams for Pennsylvania and national EMT certification.

Paramedic

This program is primarily designed for future Emergency Medical Services personnel, but it is appropriate for anyone who may respond to emergencies, including fire/rescue personnel, nurses, coaches or athletic trainers, safety professionals, etc. All students in the program must be certified emergency medical technicians (EMT). Successful completion of the program makes students eligible for the National Registry of Paramedics’ exams for Pennsylvania and national certification as a paramedic.

Act 120: Municipal Police Academy

The Criminal Justice Training Center offers full-time and part-time Act 120 programs, which are required programs for employment as a police officer in Pennsylvania. Learn more about the programs and how to apply for a career as a police officer.

Act 235: Lethal Weapons Training

Full 40-hour course or 8.5-hour recertification course) The Lethal Weapons Training, Act 235, provides certification to privately employed security agents to carry a lethal weapon. The training consists of academics, skills, and firearms training with a handgun and shotgun. For an additional fee, students can add patrol rifle training. This course is approved through the PA State Police.

Microsoft Training and Certifications

All IUP students are eligible to obtain Microsoft Certifications. The Microsoft Fundamentals Certifications and the resources to learn, prepare, and get certified are free to students.

SkillUp™ PA

SkillUp PA provides access to free, online job skills training to Pennsylvania residents. Courses are available on the Metrix Learning Portal and can be accessed by registering for a free account on the PA CareerLink website.
