“Indiana University of Pennsylvania provided me with many opportunities to grow intellectually, interpersonally, and professionally through university-sponsored projects, internships, and experienced and challenging instructors and staff. Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Pennsylvania, IUP offered an atmosphere where I could dedicate myself to my studies, focus on goals and course work, and feel safe and invited everywhere I went.
“I studied Finance and Economics, led the Student Managed Investment Portfolio, received three paid internships in the field of business, and was recruited to Washington, D.C., after graduation to work for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as a federal consultant. Most first-year hires from are recruited from schools such as Georgetown University, the University of Virginia, the University of Chicago, Syracuse University, and other well-known schools, but CSC has hired several IUP alumni, and these workers are noted among the top workers in their practices. The education and values I received by attending IUP have quickly enabled me to move up the in this large company (~95,000 employees) and my group. Most recently, I was recognized by as an outstanding employee and was awarded the Employee of the Month.”—Bradley Miller, Consultant, Federal Consulting Practice
“I attended IUP from 2002 to 2006 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Management and a minor in Economics. My time at IUP was a very valuable experience filled with life lessons, a great learning experience, and lifelong friends. The Eberly College of Business has a great curriculum and knowledgeable teachers that really prepare their students for the real world upon graduation.
“After graduation, I started as an IT recruiter/resource specialist for Oxford Solutions, and have been here for nearly four years! Oxford Solutions specializes in supplying professionals for engineering, information technology, accounting/finance, sales support, executive, and administrative positions. Since 1998, we have been committed to helping companies grow throughout western Pennsylvania. The firm’s services include contract staffing, contract-to-direct staffing, direct placement services, and on-site programs.”—Jon Fantini, Resource Specialist, IT Services Division, Oxford Solutions
“I graduated from IUP in May of 2009 with honors in Marketing. My education and experience at IUP developed my maturity. Going from college to a career is a transition, and IUP made it smoother. The Eberly College of Business prepared me well for my future, and the friends I made and moments we had—well, those won’t be forgotten. I now work at Massaro in the Restoration division as a business development representative. My job is wonderful. I also still do what I enjoy the most, and that is standup comedy, so I have the best of both worlds!”—Vince Fasline, Business Development Representative, MASSARO Restoration Services
“I completed my Master of Arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with a focus on Student Affairs in Higher Education. While attending IUP, I had multiple opportunities for developing my professional skills through practica and graduate assistantships. Through these experiences, I was challenged to think outside the box, hone my writing skills, and further develop as a professional. Throughout graduate school and upon graduation, I worked in various universities, all the while expanding my network of colleagues and contacts. While working at Penn State, I met my current employer, PLS Logistics Services. PLS was growing at a steady rate and was in need of a corporate recruiter to help with the expansion of the organization. I was able to utilize my experience as a career services professional within the business world as a corporate recruiter… and it was a perfect fit for me! I now recruit entry-level sales positions for PLS Logistics Services, and look forward to a long and meaningful career within the company.”—Emily Cicconi , Corporate Recruiter, PLS Logistics Services
“When I arrived at IUP in the Fall of 1998, I was eager to begin a new chapter in my life, but didn’t know how the end of the story would turn out. During my sophomore year, I declared my major: French for International Trade. It was a perfect fit for me. My love of the French language and culture, combined with my interest in business, encouraged me to work hard and make the most of my college education. I was very fortunate to have studied abroad during my junior year at l’Universite de Nancy, where I took business classes taught in French. The opportunity to study in France was presented through IUP, and my experience enabled my intellectual growth and personal maturity.
“I graduated with my B.A. eight months after the terrorist attacks of September 11, and finding a job as a new college graduate was a challenge. Again, I was eager to use my experience and knowledge of my four years at IUP and apply them to the real world. Within two weeks of graduating, I was offered an entry-level position at a think tank in Washington, D.C. I then landed a position in Recruiting and Human Resources at a boutique strategy consulting firm, which is the job that helped shape the path for my career.
“In 2006, my husband (a fellow IUP alumnus) and I returned to our roots in Pittsburgh, where I have been working for four years as the manager of Human Resources at Thorp Reed & Armstrong LLP, a mid-size law firm located in downtown Pittsburgh. I am passionate about my employees and about Human Resources, just as I was passionate about studying French and business when I was at IUP. I currently serve on the board of directors for the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association and help cochair our College Relations Committee. I am enjoying interacting with college students and helping them prepare for the workforce, as IUP did for me.
“My four years of undergraduate work at IUP were the building blocks to my career in Human Resources. I certainly would not be where I am today without the preparation and opportunities I began to encounter at the Oak Grove twelve years ago.”—Meredith C. Stephenson, Manager of Human Resources, Thorp Reed & Armstrong LLP
“Prior to graduating from IUP in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in Finance, I was able to secure an internship with a financial services company, thanks to the curriculum given by the Eberly College of Business. Having knowledgeable and caring professors like Dr. Affaneh helped make the transition from student to employee much easier. After graduation, I began my career in the mortgage industry, but then found myself leaning toward the human resource/staffing arenas and the placement of accounting/finance professionals. My education at IUP has provided me with the knowledge and capability to assist others in their job search. It gives me great pleasure to now return to my alma mater as a resource for the Career Development Center in their quest to employ future graduates.”—Allison (Klem) Whitesell, PHR. Operations Manager, Staffmark
“I am a 1982 graduate of IUP where I majored in Accounting with a minor in MIS. My education provided direct and relevant knowledge for the financial services industry that I’ve been in since graduation. I’ve had senior manager positions with great companies such as Mellon Bank, Visa, and Confluence. I’ve also worked in several early-stage companies where I’ve had to rely on lessons learned at IUP to succeed.
“IUP provided me with many opportunities to grow academically, socially, and athletically. I created lifelong friendships at IUP that have carried over to this day. My wife and two brothers are also IUP graduates.
“I often meet IUP alumni in business settings, and I am amazed at the network of alumni in key positions both in Pittsburgh and all over Pennsylvania.
“IUP was the ideal college experience for me, and I would recommend it highly to anyone wanting a high quality education in an ideal location such as Indiana, Pa.”—David Moore
“I attended IUP from 1990 to 1994. I graduated with a B.S. in Natural Sciences, and was also commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from the IUP ROTC program. Choosing IUP over both larger and smaller schools was one of the best decisions I ever made. I met my wife, Anne Henry Postage ’95, at IUP, and we have been happily married for fifteen years.
“I found the educational process at IUP to be very challenging—but not overwhelming. The class size and pace of instruction were excellent. I have always told my family, friends, and colleagues that IUP had the best of both worlds—a smaller, more intimate campus that was large enough to provide many of the opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom that other large schools offered.
“Since graduation, my educational and leadership experiences both in the classroom and in the Army ROTC program have served me exceptionally well. After serving five years in active service in the U.S. Army, I embarked on a second career with Cintas Corporation as a production supervisor. In eleven years with Cintas, I held numerous positions, including production manager, plant manager, service director, general manager, and, most recently, group vice president. The foundation of my career was forged at IUP. I was challenged to use sound reasoning, judgment, analytical thinking, creativity, and leadership throughout the technical classes and labs as well as the liberal studies courses I took as part of my curriculum.
“It is my opinion that IUP offers one of the best educational opportunities around!”—Gregg S. Postage, National Service Director, Cintas
