Welcome! We're glad you found us, and we're here to help.

The Counseling Center provides services Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. when classes are in session. Counseling services are included in your Wellness Fee.

  • The IUP Counseling Center provides a range of mental health services and support for Indiana University of Pennsylvania students, including urgent crisis intervention and emergency consultation to students, faculty, staff, and family members.

We offer free, confidential, short-term therapy to students. The sessions provide students with the opportunity to speak freely and discuss private, personal issues.

  • Students seek therapy for a variety of reasons ranging from stress and homesickness to self-exploration.
  • Based on your goals and what you have going on, you will be matched with a counselor based on your needs. Typically, sessions are weekly.

All of our services are free and confidential, protected by law and ethical standards. Whatever your concerns are, a conversation with a counseling center counselor is a good place to start. Options:

  • Individual, relationship, and group therapy
  • Crisis support
  • Referrals

How does it work?

  • Students are typically seen once a week for a 50-minute session, based on individual needs.
  • Duration and frequency of individual counseling are determined by the student’s unique needs.

Wondering how to get started? The Counseling Center is available by phone (724-357-2621) or email (counseling-center@iup.edu) Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. In your email, write, “Hi, I'm interested in scheduling an appointment.” You will receive a response from the department secretary with scheduling options.

As a place for helping students at IUP, the Counseling Center works to be an actively anti-racist institution. We will promote and amplify the voices of those who have been marginalized, and we will use every opportunity to create lasting systemic change. Recent events prove that words are powerful. The Counseling Center will be open to support students in processing their reactions, thoughts, and feelings. We will also advocate for everyone at IUP in our continued efforts to counter hate in all its forms.
