Denim Day

In support of survivors who did not get the justice they fought for in the legal systems, we wear denim!

The Haven Project, Panhellenic Association, and Alice Paul House invite you to wear denim today.  Stop by the tables in the Oak Grove for resource information and decorate denim to show your support for survivors of sexual assault.

Denim Day is an international campaign that started in 1999 after an Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction by stating that the victim had to have aided her assailant given the fact that she was wearing tight jeans.

Enraged by the verdict, the women in the Italian Parliament launched into immediate action and protested by wearing jeans on the steps of the Parliament building. This was the beginning of what has become a worldwide movement to wear jeans as a visible means of protest against misconceptions that surround sexual assault.
