April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The Haven Project is proud to host the annual Take Back the Night event. Join us to raise awareness and support survivors of sexual violence, domestic and dating violence, and stalking.
Take Back the Night will feature:
6:00 p.m. - Opening Ceremony in the Oak Grove
- Join us for general empowering activities prior to the start of the march. This will include chalking, sign-making, guest speakers, view the Clothesline Project, and visit tables with resources for support. Free TBTN shirts will be available while supplies last.
7:00 p.m. - TBTN March (leaving from the Oak Grove and concluding at the HUB)
- Please arrive at the Oak Grove by 6:30 p.m. for direction before the march begins.
- The march route will be ADA-accessible.
7:30 p.m. - Survivor Support Reception and Speak-Out in the HUB Ohio Room
- Anyone is welcome to share their story in this safe and judgement-free space. Counselors will be on hand to talk with anyone who needs support.
Our hope is to show those impacted by violence that IUP is a unified community dedicated to ending all forms of interpersonal violence and supporting those impacted.
According to the Take Back the Night Organization:
- 1 in 3 women worldwide experience some form of sexual violence or intimate partner violence.
- 1 in 6 men experience sexual violence.
- 2 in 3 transgender people have been sexually assaulted.
- People in the LGBTQIA+ community are more likely to experience sexual violence.
- Less than 50% of victims report these crimes.
We continue to march forward into the future, committed to ending sexual violence for all people of all sexual and gender identities, races, ethnicities, nationalities, religious beliefs, ages, and abilities.
We welcome all who will walk, stand, speak, chant, and rally with us until sexual violence is no more.
