Guidelines for Submission to the “Day in the Life” Series

  • The Department of Food and Nutrition is looking to highlight the stories of current dietetic interns, graduate students, and alumni. We welcome you to submit your own stories, or to contact a current Food and Nutrition graduate assistant, food-nutrition@iup.edu, to set up an interview. You will need to sign a copy of the following photo release form before your story is published on the Food and Nutrition website.

Stories can take place in the form of a video or a written document. If you would like our graduate assistants (GAs) to create a video of your “day in the life” story, please follow these instructions.

    Video Submissions

    1. Record some short videos using a cell phone or video camera around your workplace (they do not need to be edited—our GAs can do this for you). Try to record places and people that prospective IUP Food and Nutrition students would find interesting.
    2. Make sure you have a short introductory clip introducing yourself, your position, and your connection to IUP.
    3. Always ask for permission from anyone in your videos. Please have them sign the photo release form.
    4. Send your videos to our GAs at food-nutrition@iup.edu.
    5. Our GAs will edit your video clips and put together a video that tells your story.
    6. The GAs will also confirm the video with you for any further suggestions or changes that you would like made before it is published on our website.
    7. The entire video submission will be anywhere from two to four minutes long.

If you are close by IUP and would like a GA to come to your workplace or internship to help you record some videos, please let us know. Here are some examples of “day in the life” stories to help you get started:

    Written Submissions

If you are drafting your own submission, please follow some of the “day in the life” examples (see above).

If you would like a GA to write your story, please answer the following questions and send an e-mail to food-nutrition@iup.edu

    2. What does your average morning look like?
    3. What does your average afternoon look like?
    4. What does your average evening look like?
    5. Who are some of the people that you regularly work with?
    6. What are some of the challenges of your position?
    7. What are some of the things you enjoy most about your position?
    8. Is there anything else that you want to tell prospective and current IUP Food and Nutrition students?
    9. What are your plans for the future?
