IUP Sports Performance Nutrition Services is directed by Nicole Dann-Payne, MS, RDN, CSSD, LDN, CHWC and staffed by graduate students of the Department of Food and Nutrition. SPNS is sponsored by the IUP Department of Food and Nutrition and the Athletics
SPNS provides IUP and local high school athletes and coaches with personalized and sport-specific nutrition strategies to optimize athletic performance and training.
We offer individualized nutrition coaching, team and small group presentations, newsletters, and informational bulletin boards to educate athletes about nutrition topics related to health and human performance.
Individualized counseling topics include:
Team and small group presentations typically last between 15 to 60 minutes and address relevant topics within sports nutrition, including:

Nicole Dann-Payne’s educational background includes a bachelor of science degree in sports nutrition and dietetics from Mansfield University and a master of science in nutrition degree from IUP.
Dann-Payne is a registered dietitian and a licensed dietitian nutritionist in Pennsylvania. Her research interests include sports nutrition, wellness, and exercise science.
Sara Clauto is a registered dietitian nutritionist and works as the graduate assistant sports nutritionist for IUP. She has a bachelor of science degree in nutrition from Mansfield University. She completed her dietetic internship, which was comprised
of 1,200 hours of supervised practice which focused on clinical, management, and community nutrition. Currently, Sara is completing her master of science degree in food and nutrition. In her free time, Sara loves taking her German Shepard for runs,
running solo, and hiking.
