The purpose of SAND is to provide members with professional involvement is food and nutrition activities as they develop their career potential.

    The goals of SAND are to:

    • Increase involvement in food and nutrition activities through educational and community experiences
    • Provide peer mentoring and tutoring
    • Serve as a liaison with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
    • Educate the community with current food and nutrition information

    Membership in this organization is open to all students interested in nutrition and/or majoring or minoring in nutrition/dietetics and related fields at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.     National Nutrition Month 2020

    March is National Nutrition Month! To celebrate, the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics of the Department of Food and Nutrition would like to invite you to participate in our annual National Nutrition Month Crockpot Cook-Off. This year’s theme is chili. The event will take place in the HUB Susquehanna Room on March 18, 2020, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. If you would like to show off your cooking skills, make a crockpot of chili that meets the listed requirements. The chili must include two plant-based protein ingredients (see list of acceptable ingredients on registration form), and enter to see if yours is the best! There will be prizes awarded to the winners. The cost of entry is $20 per team. A team can consist of one to five people. We encourage departmental teams, student organization teams, and teams of both faculty and students.

    If cooking is not your forte, we still welcome you to come to our event. For a $2 donation, you can come sample each chili and vote for your favorite recipe. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center.

    The first 20 teams to get their entry forms and entry fee submitted are guaranteed a spot at the event. All entry forms and entry fees are due by Friday, March 6, to Ackerman Hall, room 102. A copy of your recipe must be submitted by March 13, 2020. This can be emailed to Saige Karastury, (S.B.Karastury@iup.edu). Be sure to get your information in as soon as possible so you are guaranteed a spot in the competition.
