    Areas of Interest

    Designing for people with special needs, needs assessment, furniture performance assessment, ergonomics, human factors, biomechanical assessment of personal protective equipment. Textile surface design, wearable electronics, wearable art, and computer aided design.

    Biography/Professional Experience

    Mercan Derafshi, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Fashion Merchandising program in the Human Development, Fashion, and Interior Design Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her research focus is product development and performance assessment of functional and protective apparel. Derafshi is particularly interested in developing apparel solutions for people with special needs. She has worked with pesticide applicators and police officers with respect to their apparel needs. Her research involves both qualitative and quantitative analyses.
