To best serve our students we have compiled this information sheet regarding changes to housing for Fall 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. If you have additional questions please email iup-housing@iup.edu and we will answer your questions.
How will The Office of Housing implement physical distancing in the residence halls?
Ultimately, our goal is to create a welcoming community
within on-campus housing while maintaining physical distancing guidelines set
forth by various organizations. To that end, here are a few ways that we will
be promoting physical distancing:
- No residents will be sharing a bedroom.
- Residents will share a bathroom with no more than
one other student.
- Common areas, such as hall offices, lobbies,
elevators, and bathrooms, will be cleaned and sanitized routinely.
- Common areas will be arranged so that students
will not be able to gather in groups larger than 10.
- Offices will have hand sanitizer for residents
and staff and extra barriers to limit the potential risk for exposure.
- As we develop new guidelines, we will keep you
updated and in the loop.
Is there enough space for everyone to have their own bedroom?
Ultimately, yes, there is. It requires some
puzzle-solving on our end as we look at each student’s assignment, selected
communities, and room/suitemates, but no one who has currently signed up for on-campus
housing will be forced off-campus.
I signed up for a shared bedroom space, do I need to contact the Housing Office in order to meet this new requirement?
No, we will contact you with your new
assignment. Please check out the timeline listed below.
However, you are always welcome to contact us if
you have any questions.
I signed up to live in the Cook Honors college housing within Whitmyre Hall. How will this affect me?
Unfortunately, the community bathroom set-up of
Whitmyre Hall does not allow for optimal physical distancing; as such, there
will be no residential housing within Whitmyre Hall for the 2020-2021 academic
year.
Cook Honors College students who signed up to
live in Whitmyre Hall will remain together as a community on the 4th floor of
Stephenson Hall.
Will I get the room that I signed up for?
If you selected a housing style with a private
bedroom, your housing assignment will not change.
If you selected a housing style with a shared
bedroom, we will make every effort to reassign you within the same building; however,
some students will be relocated to the next closest building available.
Will I have to pay more because of the reassignment?
No, students will not be penalized for the
changes. In the event your room type is changed to a more expensive suite-style,
your housing bill will not increase.
When will I know if I have been reassigned?
