Music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus; Lyrics by Tim Rice, and Book by Richard Nelson; Directed by Jeannie Brown; Musical Direction by Sarah Mantel
Chess moves beyond the quiet game of decorous strategy when it comes to this dynamic, rock-scored musical.
A love triangle forms, intensified by Cold War propaganda once associated with world chess championships. Through a maze of intrigue and conspiracy, the treachery of the human heart is exposed. From Bangkok to Budapest, the players struggle to win regardless of the cost. The explosive music, conceived by the composers of Mamma Mia (ABBA) and the lyricist of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, includes hits such as “I Know Him So Well,” “Pity the Child,” and “One Night in Bangkok.”
