Latin Social Dance
7:00-8:00 p.m., Performing Arts Center Rehearsal Studio (second floor), IUP Campus
- Taught by Vanessa Valecillos and Alexander Duval, members of the Ballet Hispanico company, the Latin Social Dance workshop is for anyone who would like to learn Salsa, one of today's most popular dances. Participants at any age and skill level can enjoy taking a turn around the dance floor as they learn from these two professional touring dancers.
- Class size is limited to 30 individuals. Participants should wear clothing they feel comfortable moving in (nothing too restricting). Shoes should not be too gripping (thick rubber soles), as this may make it difficult to pivot, turn, and glide as the dance form requires at times. Character shoes or heels are acceptable, but not mandatory. If you would like to attend, please e-mail Jeff Wacker at jwacker@iup.edu.
Latin Jazz Masterclass
8:15-9:30 p.m., Performing Arts Center Rehearsal Studio (second floor), IUP Campus
- Ballet Hispanico dancer Marcos Rodriguez will teach an intermediate/advanced Latin Jazz class to interested dancers that will incorporate current Ballet Hispanico repertoire. This is a great opportunity to work on the style and then see it in action the next evening at their 8:00 p.m. performance in Fisher Auditorium. This session is geared to more advanced dance students actively involved in area dance schools, high school, and university dance programs.
- Class size is limited to 25 individuals. Participants should wear form-fitting dance attire (leotard, form-fitting tops, tights, pants, or shorts are all acceptable). Jazz shoes are recommended, but participants may also be barefoot or in socks.
The classes are first-come, first-served, so early registration is encouraged. If you wish to participate, please RSVP by March 25 to Jeff Wacker at jwacker@iup.edu, or the Lively Arts at 724-357-2787.
These outreach events are brought to IUP and the Indiana community at no charge by ArtsPath, the arts-in-education program of the Lively Arts.
