Retired teacher Vivian Bigley Sylvester ’65 went on a second mission trip to Africa. At the Needs Care School in Zambia, she taught classes and provided materials for 1,500 students in first through seventh grades. More than half the students are orphans, and a large percentage are HIV positive, she said. A mother of two and grandmother of four, Vivian is a lay leader at her local Methodist church and a certified lay speaker for the church’s Pittsburgh district. She is also mission and outreach coordinator at the Olive Branch, a fair trade store in Wexford.
