Abigail Gerlach is currently a sophomore at IUP, and is
dual-majoring in criminology and English, as well as minoring in Women’s and
Gender Studies.
A 2016 graduate of Brandywine Heights High School in Mertztown,
Pennsylvania, Abigail is a Cook Honors College student and a recipient of the Sutton
Scholarship. She is an active member of Criminology Association and IUP’s chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice
Honors Society. Upon completing the necessary credits, she also plans on joining
the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society. Aside from academics, Abigail
volunteers at the Indiana County Humane Society, and enjoys playing the piano.
In her time remaining at IUP, Abigail is looking to complete
an internship with a municipal police department and is strongly considering
the summer policing program in Ocean City, Maryland. Following graduation from
college, she plans to pursue a career in law enforcement. She hopes to one day
be able to work with a domestic violence unit to help those in abusive
situations escape dangerous or harmful circumstances. Her experience working as
a research assistant with MARTI will give her valuable skills that she can
utilize in her future career path.
