All students interested in being a music major or minor are required to audition. Information about auditioning for the IUP Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance can be found on our Music Auditions page.
All music majors are eligible for scholarships, which are determined based on your audition.
If you are accepted to IUP, you may declare a major in theatre without an audition. Auditions and portfolio reviews are required to be eligible for a Freshman Talent Scholarship.

IUP music alumni Dennis ('75 MA '82) and Elizabeth Cramer ('76) and David Earnest ('23) recently performed for "Last Fridays at the Museum," sponsored by the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in Washington, PA.
Jay Althouse, who earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1973 and 1975, respectively), has gifted $25,000 to IUP to support the music program and students planning for a career in music education.
Assistant professor of piano at Duquesne University, Kevin Lee Sun will perform a solo piano recital on Monday, September 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall (second floor of Sutton Hall). The program will include works by Stockhausen, d’Anglebert, and Brahms, as well as more recently composed works by Hyo-Shin Na and Colin Kemper.
Cellist Linda Jennings and pianist Chindarat Charoenwongse will present the first recital of the IUP season in Gorell Hall on Tuesday evening, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. The program will present traditional works alongside newer works, including Claude Debussy’s sonata, the slow movement of the Rachmaninoff sonata, and works by David Maslanka, Chen Yi, and Samuel Magrill. The recital is open and free to the public.
