Melvin Jenkins, Department of Developmental Studies, created and coordinated the summer component of the Pathways to the Promise program.
The program is a Pittsburgh school system initiative. It aims to prepare high school students in an urban environment for college.
Pathways to the Promise participants spent a week on IUP’s campus over the summer (June 27 to July 3, 2010). The summer component was designed to immerse participants in the college campus experience. Students roomed in one of the university’s residence halls and took three modified college classes a day while participating in an array of extracurricular activities.
Jenkins coordinated curricular and extracurricular activities for Pathways to the Promise participants.
