The Department of Theater and Dance at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will present The Alan Parsons Movement Project: The Human Situation, opening October 28, 2011.
Performed by the IUP Dance Theater, shows are slated for October 28 and 29 at 7:00 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m. Performances will be presented on the Zink Hall Dance Theater, located along Pratt Drive, adjacent to the Memorial Field House.
Through their powerful, poetic lyrics and melodies, the music of the Alan Parsons Project lends itself to interpretation of human emotions and responses. The IUP Dance Theater explores these emotions and responses through movement to give the audience a new visual perspective of the music’s meaning.
Choreographers Holly Boda-Sutton and Anna Ponak-Shively chose to reveal these human situations through the guiding actions of a puppeteer. The puppeteer creates and sets the various dance scenes, arranging the human puppets to begin each emotional or challenging situation.
Boda-Sutton stated, “Our definition of ‘puppeteer’ is one who operates, designs, and unfolds a puppet’s story. So we leave it up to the audience to decide if he is just a puppeteer manipulating his puppets, or is he something much greater than that.”
Tickets for The Alan Parsons Movement Project: The Human Situation are available at the Hadley Union Building, located on Pratt Drive of the IUP campus. Tickets may also be purchased with a credit card by calling the HUB Box Office at 724-357-1313 or online at IUP Tickets.
