Last Tuesday evening, November 1, 2011, over fifty participants were involved in Northpointe’s Star Party.

A picture of the moon from the Star PartyIt was an evening to learn more about laser operations, electro-optics, and astronomy. This event was open to students in grades nine through twelve from area school districts. Eight telescopes were set up in the back parking lot of the campus for students to learn more about astronomy. Members of the Kiski Astronomers also participated in this event and were very excited to share their knowledge with the participants.

IUP's Upward Bound Math and Science Program from the main campus brought nine students to the event. They also received a tour of the facility and of the electro-optics labs.

Dr. Andrew Zhou and Mr. Ron Freda from the Physics Department helped put this event together. Several students from Northpointe's Electro-Optics Program were also on hand to help out with the event.

Students that participated really enjoyed the event and learned a lot about science and the stars. IUP at Northpointe hopes to host another Star Party in the Spring semester.
