Although it may not quite be Halloween, it will definitely soon be time to find a costume and get over to SingAlong Sound of Music. Combine the award-winning classic Broadway show-turned film Sound of Music, a bunch of costume-clad audience members, and a gaggle of voices following the proverbial bouncing Edelweiss, and you have a formula that is ripe for an afternoon of side-splitting hilarity.
Need some costume ideas now?
SingAlong Sound of Music, has become an international sensation that has gotten thousands to rediscover this family musical in a whole new way. It will be presented in Fisher Auditorium as the opening performance of the 2012–2013 Ovations! season presented by the Lively Arts at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2012.
After picking up some popcorn on sale in the lobby and as you enter the auditorium, you will be given a small free “goodie” bag. The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. when the movie’s host, Stefanie Miller, will tell you all about the props in your bag and when to use them. She will also invite costumed audiences members to join her on stage for a costume contest if they wish, after which special prizes will be awarded.
The film will soon begin, and, as Maria, a.k.a. Julie Andrews, begins to twirl over the mountain’s crest and onto the screen, the audience will join her in a rousing chorus of the title song. Helping the audience in singing along throughout the movie will be young cast members from this summer’s Footlight Players.
Do you have to come in costume? Absolutely not! Should you come in costume? That’s up to you. But to help you, the Lively Arts has put together a list of possibilities from do-it-yourself ideas to subtle twists on a theme.
