SingAlong Sound of Music will include more than a free “fun pack” for every audience member, a costume contest for those coming dressed as their favorite Von Trapp related character, and a chance to sing your heart out. The event will also feature several cameo and group appearances to help everyone join in the fun, giving the showing of this award-winning film an extra spark.
Heading the list of cameo appearances this Sunday, September 23, will be the new IUP president, Michael Driscoll, as the Goatherd and IUP’s first lady, Becky Driscoll, as the “Woman in the Pink Dress.” Joining them will be Michael Hood, dean of the College of Fine Arts, as Captain Von Trapp.
Maria and the children will appear during several of the movie’s scenes in the guise of local young actors Maddie Jones, Quentin Davis, Maeve Moris, Alex Kim, Kristina Andrei, Sydney Shearer, Grace Smith, Sarah Pistole, and Jennifer Gandolfi (in rehearsal as pictured below). These students were members of the 2012 Footlight Players, IUP’s Summer Youth Theater Program, and performed in their production of Sound of Music in July.
Community members representing the nuns from the Abbey, with costumes provided by the Costume Shop in Indiana, will be Maggie Babco, Emily Briggs, Don Lopresti, Bonnie Dunlap, Eric Smith, and Jerod Alltop.
Audience members will also be able to purchase popcorn and bottled water prior to the performance and during intermission.
As the opening act of the 2012–2013 Lively Arts Ovations! series, SingAlong Sound of Music will be presented Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.
