Dance Theater, produced by the Department of Theater and Dance at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, will present A Whirlwind to Oz on October 19 and 20, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Zink Dance Auditorium. A matinee performance will be offered on Sunday, October 21, at 2:00 p.m.
A new twist on an old classic, the storyline of this dance production follows the basic structure of the classic tale written by L. Frank Baum, but takes liberties with the characters and the places as it unfolds a unique version of the story.
A Whirlwind to Oz follows the journey of Dorothy, Toto, Scary Bro, Tinsel Woman, and Lionel the Accessory Coward as they travel to Emerald Island in search of answers. Along the way, they encounter other characters, including Glinda the Bedazzle Witch, the Wicked Witch of Prada, and, eventually, the Enchantress of Oz.
Dorothy, along with her new friends, learn important lessons about life as they face each situation encountered on their expedition.
IUP Dance Theater is under the direction of Holly Boda-Sutton.
