Posted on 10/23/2012 9:18:58 AM

Everyone is invited to join us today for International Tea Time, and faculty are invited to a workshop to learn about previous study abroad experiences. All of this takes place as part of events in observance of International Education Week.

IUP’s Office of International Education, with funding from the IUP Cooperative Association in collaboration with other IUP offices, has created a variety of events to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation in our community. Join us this week!

Wednesday, October 24, 2012:

Faculty-Led Study Abroad Panel

  • 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
  • HUB: Monongahela Room

Learn from experienced IUP faculty who have led groups of students abroad. This program is in collaboration with the Center for Teaching Excellence. For faculty in reflective practice, this 90-minute workshop is considered a large group meeting. Faculty who had led groups of students abroad will share their experiences from planning to travel to evaluation. The Office of International Education staff will discuss how to get started, while the Center for Teaching Excellence will offer ideas to internationalize curricula.

International Tea Time

  • 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
  • HUB: Susquehanna Room

See a Chinese tea ceremony and sample tea and coffee from several different countries. Food booths represented by IUP international students will have various teas, coffees, juice, and snacks favored by their respective countries. Free and open to all. Also, enjoy the Mi Esperanza Sale, featuring handbags, wallets, t-shirts, and jewelry made by Honduran women. Mi Esperanza is a nonprofit organization that supports the women of Honduras by helping them to create small businesses that provide income to support their families.

Other activities this week include the U.S. Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony and Indonesian Culture Day. See the complete schedule of events.
