The Department of Religious Studies is happy to announce that the 2012–2013 Emily A. Fabiny Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Gabrielle Kennedy
Gabrielle Kennedy is a junior at IUP majoring in Religious Studies. She plans to graduate in 2014.
At IUP, she is a member of the Religious Studies Club, the Committee for the Study of Culture and Religion, the Spirit of the Oak, and Pride. She is also president of the Unitarian Universalist student group at IUP and currently works as a religious education assistant at her church, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Indiana.
Gabrielle has always been concerned with helping people and is fascinated with other cultures. She spent last year studying abroad in Derry, Ireland, and she loved it so much that she intends to return for a visit there over Winter break. While her ultimate career goal is to become a Unitarian Universalist minister, she may decide to join the Peace Corps or a similar organization for a period of service after she graduates.
The Fabiny Scholarship will help fund her travel and her studies to complete the Religious Studies major. “I really love the Religious Studies program,” she says, “the professors are really great, and the other students are really neat.”
