IUP piano faculty member Jacob Ertl performed as the Artist-in-Residence for the PianoArts organization in Milwaukee, Wisc., on January 7–9, 2013.

Ertl performed two solo community outreach recitals, one for grade school students, and the other for families in the community. He also performed with Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra violinist Glenn Asch in collaborative performances. Ertl taught a master class for piano majors at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts and gave a lecture recital on Frederic Rzewski's “De Profundis.”

Ertl has been the Artist-in-Residence for PianoArts for the past six years, where he has given hundreds of outreach performances that use innovative and interactive programming. Recent years have included college tours in the Midwest and collaborations with Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra musicians. Ertl has also helped train emerging artists in the residency program as well as young “Spotlight” performers.
