Save These Dates: Two Reflective Practice Large Group Meetings in April

Posted on 3/25/2013 2:21:52 PM

Two Reflective Practice Large Group Meetings will take place in April 2013. These events are open to faculty and teaching associates only.

  • On Thursday, April 4, 2013, David Porter will present “Tools for Critical Reflection: Course Design Rubrics for Distance Education” from 3:30–4:45 p.m. in the Crimson Event Center, Folger Hall.

This interactive program introduces faculty to course design rubrics. We will subsequently engage in discussion how individual and groups of faculty as well as the institution might use these tools for critical reflection and the progressive improvement of online courses and student learning.  Faculty are encouraged to bring laptops, iPads, etc. in order to contribute material electronically.
  • On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, Timothy Runge, of the Department of Educational and School Psychology, will present a session on Formative Assessment from 3:35–4:50 p.m. in Stabley 210.

Runge will teach us how to create a more engaging classroom—one in which we can teach at students’ appropriate instructional levels by using various polling technologies. Runge will focus on the use of technology to assess students’ mastery of course content either during or before class. Data from these activities are then used to modify instruction that is matched to students’ needs. Low-technology options for polling students’ course mastery will also be discussed.

It is not necessary to RSVP.

Refreshments will be served!
