Tamara Whited, Department of History, traveled to Lavin, Switzerland, in mid-August 2013 to participate as a
faculty instructor in an environmental history summer school geared toward the
needs of mid-level graduate students from Europe and North America.
She made a brief presentation on
the challenges of environmental history, but largely engaged with graduate
students and faculty on recent methodologies of environmental history and
alpine environmental histories.
Sponsoring organizations include the European Society for Environmental
History, the Rachel Carson Center of Munich, the University of Zurich, the
International Association for Alpine History, the Commission Internationale
pour la Protection des Alpes, and the Swiss National Park.
She then spent several days in Munich
attending the annual meeting of the European Society for Environmental History.
