Chinese tea setThe Office of International Education invites you to join us for a variety of cultural activities and programs as part of International Education Week (IEW) which will be held October 18–26, 2013. Open to all. Here is our schedule of events:

Friday, October 18, 2013

The Lively Arts Series: Mnozil Brass

  • 8:00 p.m., Fisher Auditorium, IUP Performing Arts Center. Tickets available at the HUB.
  • An Austrian septet that combines musical virtuosity with absurdist theater, the group’s name means “nozzle” and refers to the Mnozil Pub, a little place near the Vienna College of Music where the founding members used to get together to drink and play music.

International Lunch Hour and Art Contest

  • 12:00–1:15 p.m., Folger: Crimson Event Center.
  • Free food and music for all. Artwork with an international theme will be on display, and attendees can vote on their favorite piece for a People’s Choice Award. After this luncheon, artwork will be on display in the Commonplace Coffeehouse from November 1, 2013 through February 1, 2014.

Six O’Clock Series: Cultural Adjustment through Study Abroad Experiences

  • 6:00–7:30 p.m., HUB Ohio Room.
  • Moderated by Andy Kent, Study Abroad advisor. IUP-returned study abroad students will discuss the idea of cultural adjustment focusing on the areas of academics, food, social life, and returning home. There will be time for questions at the end.

International Tea Time

  • 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., HUB: Susquehanna Room.
  • See a traditional Chinese tea ceremony demonstration and try a variety of teas, coffees, and snacks from 10 to 12 countries. Booths are hosted by IUP international students. Free and open to all.

Study Abroad Fair

  • Noon–3:00 p.m., HUB: Ohio Room.
  • Come learn about the wide range of opportunities to study overseas. Students can obtain information and talk to representatives and alumni about IUP reciprocal exchanges, affiliated programs, faculty-led programs, and overseas volunteer and service-learning opportunities. This year, IUP’s ROTC will be present to discuss ROTC programs that support study abroad including scholarships. Find more information about study abroad at IUP.

Mi Esperanza Vendor Sale at the Study Abroad Fair

  • This is a nonprofit organization that supports the women of Honduras by helping them to create small businesses that provide income to support their families. Items on sale are handbags, wallets, t-shirts, and jewelry.

Summer Study Abroad in South Africa

  • 7:30 p.m., Weyandt Hall, Room 6.
  • Learn about this program. Sponsored by the IUP Biology Department.

U.S. Citizenship Naturalization Ceremony

  • 11:00 a.m., Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex: Toretti Auditorium.
  • IUP has been asked to host a U.S. Citizenship Ceremony for those in the surrounding area. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Open to the public.

Noche Latina

  • 6:30–9:30 p.m., HUB: Ohio Room.
  • Hosted by the Latino Student Organization and Ritmo Latino Dance Crew in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Enjoy an evening of great food, music, dance, and display of IUP community talent.
