University of Pennsylvania will present two one-act operas titled Signor Deluso and Trouble in Tahiti starting Thursday, October 31, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. The performances,

was composed in 1974 by Thomas Pasatieri and is based on the play by French
playwright Moliére. This comedy is stacked with layer-upon-layer of misunderstanding
involving young lovers, delusional neighbors, and a domineering father. Deluso
is living with much confusion; but, just when everything appears to be
hopelessly embroiled, the saucy maid appears in the nick of time.
Written by Leonard Bernstein, Trouble in Tahiti is considered a light-hearted but pointed satire
of 1950s suburban sophistication and family life. The story follows housewife
Dinah and businessman Sam through a typical day of married life. Akin to our
current day Mad Men, Bernstein's
music is, as always, energetic, jazzy, tuneful, and truly American.
Both productions will be sung in English and are directed
by IUP music faculty membe Tania Arazi Coambs.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Hadley Union
Building, online at IUP Tickets, or by calling the HUB Box Office at
724-357-1313. Seats remaining will be sold at the door starting 45 minutes
before the performance.
