Ryan Rowles, PennDOT regional archaeologist in PennDOT District 12, presented an afternoon graduate colloquium on October 15, 2013, to graduate students and faculty in Applied Archaeology. He spoke about jobs in transportation archaeology providing examples of the variety of work related to cultural resource management that his job entails.

The colloquium, entitled “Jobs in Archaeology!? Who Knew PennDOT Cared about Cultural Identity and Quality of Life?,” gave students insight into the nature of jobs working for state agencies such as PennDOT.

Rowles, who received his bachelor's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology from IUP in 2001, also earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma based on archaeological research he conducted in Northern Mexico.

Rowles worked for IUP Archaeological Services as a grant funded coordinator before taking his current job with PennDOT.
