The IUP Trumpet Ensemble will present its 2013 fall recital on Thursday, November 14, in Room 121 of Cogswell Hall on the IUP campus. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the general public. Kevin Eisensmith directs the IUP Trumpet Ensemble.
The program will feature numerous pieces for the 22-member ensemble, along with works for smaller groups. The performance will begin with an arrangement of Malcomb Arnold’s “Hoffnung Fanfare,” originally written for 32 trumpet players. Chandler Wilson, a graduate candidate in conducting, will direct “System Overload,” which will feature Eisensmith as trumpet soloist. “System Overload” was written for Eisensmith and a group of students who attended the Orvieto Musica “TrumpetFest” in Orvieto, Italy, in summer 2013 by IUP alumnus Michael Gaydeski. Gaydeski is currently a master’s candidate in composition at Oklahoma City State University. The program will conclude with Gaydeski’s arrangement of “O magnum Mysterium,” followed by Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus from “Messiah.”
The IUP Trumpet Ensemble includes both Music majors and non-music majors, who audition for acceptance into the group. For more information about the IUP Trumpet Ensemble recital, please contact Kevin Eisensmith at 724-357-1246.
A recital featuring members of the IUP Trumpet Studio will begin at 8:00 on the same evening.
