Ben Ford and Wendy van Duivenvoorde, Flinders University,
recently compiled a volume entitled Perspectives from Historical Archaeology
and ACUA Proceedings on behalf of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
This volume includes 49 articles originally published in the
journal Historical Archaeology and the annual Advisory Council on Underwater
Archaeology Proceedings, as well as a new introduction by Ford and van
Duivenvoorde. The articles span the last quarter century and address topics
including shipwrecks, terrestrial maritime sites, ethics, field techniques, and
cultural heritage management.
Ford and van Duivenvoorde compiled the volume on behalf
of the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA), the largest scholarly
organization concerned with historical and maritime archaeology.
The Perspectives volumes offer subject
matter and regional selections of articles published in the SHA’s journal Historical
Archaeology. Each volume is developed by a compiler who is an
expert in the material and who selects the articles and their structure. The
compiler also provides an introduction that presents an overview of the
substantive work on that topic. Perspectives volumes offer
non-archaeologists a convenient source for important publications on a subject
or a region; an excellent resource for students interested in developing a
specialization in a specific topic or area; affordable and comprehensive
sources for course adoption; and a convenient reference for
archaeologists with an interest in the subject matter.
The Perspectives volumes are available in print or digitally
