Rising Star Pianist Re Zhang Presents Guest Artist Recital

Pianist Re Zhang will present a guest artist recital on Monday, April 7, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall.

The program for the recital includes Beethoven’s 33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli, Op.120, and Rachmaninoffs Etudes-Tableau, Op.33.

Re Zhang is a pianist from Beijing, China, who is currently studying with Robert Shannon at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She began to study piano when she was five years old and performed on the stage for the first time when she was six. In 2000, she took part in the Sixth Piano Open Competition of YMCA-YWCA and was awarded first prize. In 2004, she was enrolled in the Music Middle School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, with the top score on the entrance exam in her year. In January 2006, she was awarded the Silver Prize in the seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia. In October 2006, she took part in the International Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Holland and was awarded the third prize. In 2010, she won the statewide scholarship in Tuesday Musical Scholarship Auditions. In 2011, she won the Rudolf Serkin Scholarship. In 2012, she won the John Elvin Prize—awarded to a student judged by the piano department to be the most talented in junior class. In April, she won the Arthur Dann Piano Competition.

In addition, Re Zhang is currently enrolled in the Honors Program in Piano Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, one of the highest distinctions for pianists.
