Dawn Smith-Sherwood, Department of Foreign Languages, presented her work “Situated Writing and Life Writing Texts: Located Subjects, Post-War Spain” at the 67th Kentucky Foreign Language Conference held at the University of Kentucky (Lexington) April 10–12, 2014.

Smith-Sherwood’s presentation provided an analysis of both the “communal” and “personal” texts residing within the covers of an anonymous found object, a partially-used 1975 edition of Editorial Aguilar’s housewife’s journal El libro del ama de casa. With its extensive introduction entitled “Un arte de vivir para el ama de casa.” El libro provides a glimpse into the “indispensable” knowledge crucial to the management of the Spanish home in the late-Franco era.
