A Midsummer Night's Dream, by the Footlight PlayersFootlight Players, the youth theater company of the Department of Theater and Dance, performed Shakespeare’s most popular comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the inaugural Pittsburgh Fringe Festival, May 10–11, 2014.

The production, which was under the direction of Footlight Player’s Producing Director Nick Hrutkay, opened to glowing reviews and won the Producer’s Choice Award from a small selection of honors given out by the Fringe.

This fresh interpretation centered on the mischievous fairy Puck as he manipulates and controls the found space world in which Shakespeare’s four mismatched lovers are caught in a supernatural squabble that will alter their destinies forever. Love, magic, and wonder fill the air as dreams blend with reality in this adventurous production inspired by fashion designer Alexander McQueen.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream featured a cast comprised of IUP alumni and current students, including Lisa Balasco, Kathleen DeOrio, Caleb Feigles, Henry Fodor, Chelsea Kikel, Alex Richardson, Hannah Kate Simon, Matt Smith, and Matt Spencer. The small cast doubled in multiple roles to create an intimate and fantastically fun experience for audience members of all ages. IUP staff member Cheryl Randal designed the mesmerizing costumes and makeup for the production.
