For the first time ever, IUP Punxsutawney declared Monday, September 15, as the commencement of a campuswide Faculty Adviser Week. Throughout the week, faculty advisers hosted get-acquainted socials, group activities, and one-on-one consultations to introduce their students to the faculty advising process.
The week and its events, along with a series of seminars scheduled through the late October spring registration, is the creation of the newly formed Academic Advisement Collaborative. The Collaborative combines the mentorship and expertise of faculty advisers and the facilitative support of administrative staff members to enhance productive student-faculty adviser interactions.
The effort seeks to establish mutually beneficial student-adviser relationships early in the academic year, and will work to facilitate regular interactions throughout the fall and spring semesters. The advising process provides both faculty members and students the opportunity to interact and learn from one another on a personal level and beyond the formal classroom setting.
