Sarah Neusius discussed “Recent Investigations at the Johnston Site” to the North Fork Chapter, Chapter 29, of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology in Brookville, Pa. on October 17, 2014. She discussed the work IUP Anthropology has been doing at this important Monongahela site located near Blairsville.

The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology is a statewide membership organization that includes both avocational and professional archaeologists. Its purpose is to promote the responsible study and preservation of Pennsylvania pre-Columbian and historic cultural resources. There are 17 active local chapters of this organization. Neusius is the current president of the organization.

Neusius is the coprincipal investigator for the archaeology being done at the Johnston site along with Beverly Chiarulli, recently retired IUP faculty member. This past summer, the IUP Archaeological Field School excavated at the site for six weeks under the direction of both Sarah Neusius and Phillip Neusius, chair of the Department of Anthropology.
