the first Ovations! series event of the new year, the Lively Arts at Indiana
University of Pennsylvania will bring the hit Sister Act, direct from Broadway. This divine musical comedy will
take place one night only on January 20, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. in Fisher
Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.
New York Post calls Sister Act “Ridiculously fun,” and audiences
are rejoicing in agreement. Barbara Walters said of the musical, “I had the
most wonderful time! It’s a show for everyone—you can even take the kids.”
Sister Act features a score by eight-time
Oscar winner Alan Menken, genius behind many of the world-famous songs from
Disney movies, including The Little
Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Enchanted. Lyrics are by Menken’s longtime collaborator, Glenn
Slater. The show is based on the 1992 movie that starred Academy Award-winning actor
and this production’s producer, Whoopi Goldberg.
Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris
Van Cartier, an aspiring diva whose life takes a surprising
turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone
would think to look—a convent.
the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find
their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sensational story about
the power of friendship, Sister Act
is reason to rejoice. It is appropriate for all ages.
