Since January 2014, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (State System) have been updating the Universities and Dixon Center Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMP). The State System has obtained grant funding through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to support this effort of identifying and implementing actions to reduce or eliminate the risk to people, property, and function from natural and human-made disasters.
After evaluating risks, assessing capabilities, and developing a mitigation strategy, the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee invites county, municipal, nonprofit and business stakeholders, the IUP community, and members of the public to hear about the draft plan and provide feedback on the HMP. This final public meeting will be held on January 23, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in G98 Wallwork Hall.
After the meeting, the plan will be finalized and will be available for review and comment on the project website. The HMP, when approved, will guide the university towards greater disaster resistance as part of on-going efforts to create a more sustainable community. It will also qualify IUP for certain kinds of FEMA mitigation project funding.
