Scholarship Opportunities for Junior Chemistry and Chemistry Education Majors

The Chemistry Department would like to announce the following two scholarships for junior chemistry and chemistry education majors: The William I. Heard Memorial Scholarship and the Edward N. Brown Memorial Scholarship.

Both awards will be presented at the 47th annual Chemistry Awards ceremony on Friday, May 1, 2015. Detailed description of the awards and the relevant electronic application materials are available on the Chemistry Department’s Awards and Scholarship webpage. Wendy Elcesser, the chairperson for the department awards committee, can answer any student questions. 

William I. Heard Memorial Scholarship

William I. Heard served as a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry here at IUP from 1963 to 1974. $1,440 is available to be applied towards the student’s expenses for the 2015–16 academic year. Candidates must be chemistry education majors in their junior year at IUP (60-89 credits completed at time of application). The awardee will be selected based on service activities, financial need, academic record, and an interview with the scholarship committee.

Edward N. Brown Memorial Scholarship

Edward N. Brown served as a faculty member in the Science/Chemistry Department at IUP from 1956 to 1971. $1,440 is available to be applied towards the student’s tuition and fees for the 2015–16 academic year. Candidates must be chemistry majors (CHEM BS and CHEM BA) in their junior year (60-9 credits completed at time of application) and have completed four semesters of chemistry at IUP. Selection is base on the student’s academic record, character and attitude (based on letters of recommendation), and interview with the Scholarship Committee.
