University of Pennsylvania will host the Pablo Ziegler Quartet for New Tango. This
one-night-only performance infused with Latin jazz will take place on
Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, located on
the second floor of IUP’s Sutton Hall.
Grammy-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and Buenos Aires native Ziegler
brings the rich musical tradition of tango music into a new, re-energized chamber
music setting with arrangements of his own compositions, as well as the music
of tango legends.
performing with the legendary Astor Piazzolla and his quintet for over a decade
and appearing on iconic Piazzolla recordings, Ziegler has led his own groups
for over 20 years. He has been at the forefront of refining and reimagining the
bounds of the tango tradition. Ziegler will be joined on stage by Hector Del
Curto, bandoneon; Jisoo Ok, cello; and Pedro Giraudo, bass, all of whom are
leaders in world music.

musical hybrid of classic tango and American jazz. He has been featured as a
guest soloist with major orchestras around the world, playing with the
Presidential Orchestra of Turkey, the Tokyo Chamber Orchestra, the Charleston
Symphony, the Metropole Orkest in Netherlands, and Jazz Sinfonica Orchestra in
São Paolo, Brazil
2005, Ziegler's release Bajo Cero won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Tango
Album, and, in 2008, his album Buenos Aires Report made the final list of
nominees for the same honor.
