Jaillet-Wentling to Speak about Antebellum Freed African Americans in Pennsylvania

Department of Anthropology graduate Angela Jaillet-Wentling will present her research on the pre-Civil War freed African American settlement of Pandenarium at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, in McElhaney G-2.

Pandenarium, located in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1854 by 61 manumitted former slaves from Virginia. Jaillet-Wentling investigated the archaeological site of Pandenarium as part of her MA thesis in the Applied Archaeology Program. The site and her research sheds some light on this unique and important settlement.
