Linus Morales, a freshman in IUP Chinese language classes, won second place in the final contest of the fifth Chinese Bridge Speech Contest for University Students in New England, which was held in Boston on April 12, 2015.

Only one student received first place, and two students, including Linus, received second place for the intermediate level. In addition to Chinese speech, contestants also competed in a Chinese talent performance.

Contestants were students from nearly 20 universities in New England, such as Harvard University, and other states in the eastern U.S., such as North Carolina University. The contest was organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and held together with the 14th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students (East USA Preliminary).

Linus is an Asian Studies major with a focus on Chinese language, and also a student in the Cook Honors College.
