Eileen Glisan conducted a two-day workshop for the Leadership Initiative for Language Learning (LILL), sponsored by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), on July 21–22, 2015, at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
The topic of this summer institute was the exploration of six core teaching practices designed to support language acquisition in classrooms. These practices included maximum use of target language, building oral interpersonal communication in the classroom, and planning with functional goals and objectives in mind.
The institute brought together 30 emerging leaders and some 100 teacher educators in an effort to build leadership strategies within their spheres of influence and assist educators in developing action plans for incorporating new ideas into their teaching. Other national and regional language organizations collaborated with ACTFL in designing and sponsoring LILL.
