Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Police, the IUP Institute for Rural Health and Safety, and PennDOT are working together on a “Park the Phone” safety campaign.

Distracted Driving

Students and employees on campus will be asked to sign a pledge not to text on cellphones and drive at various campus events through September 14, 2015. Signs have been posted around campus reminding persons to “Park the Phone.”

Statistics show that drivers who use cell phones are four times more likely to get into serious crashes, and that using a cell phone while driving significantly impairs driving ability, the same as having a blood alcohol level at the legal limit of .08 percent.
