The Department of Foreign Languages is celebrating the start of the 2015-2016 academic year with the great news that each of its five May 2015 BS Spanish Education graduates has secured a teaching position.

Here in Pennsylvania, Kevin Buynak has accepted a post in the Spring Cove School District (Roaring Spring, PA), and Amy Oplinger began classes earlier this week in the Quaker Valley School District (Leetsdale, PA). In neighboring Maryland, Chelsea Cherry is teaching in the Baltimore County Public Schools (Lansdowne High School), and close by, Shelby Ledger is employed in the Anne Arundel School District (North County High School). A bit further afield, third-generation IUP alumna Ella Tessari has also begun her new position in the Louisa County Public Schools of Virginia.

The IUP Spanish Education Program has twice been recognized by NCATE and ACTFL, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. It was also recently featured in a study highlighting the best practices of the top three foreign language teacher preparation programs in the United States.
