A three-part workshop, beginning Sunday, October 11, from noon to 3:00 p.m., is being offered in Waller Hall to construct giant puppets that will be used during IUP’s third annual Día de los Muertos skeleton procession on October 31, 2015.
In preparation for the opening of the University Museum exhibition Walk Through Latin America, Brian Jones, chairperson of IUP’s Department of Theater and Dance and owner of the Artists Hand Gallery, will guide participants in making their own parade puppets.
This workshop will be conducted in three sessions:
These will all be conducted in the Waller Hall Studio Theater, lower level, at IUP. A $5 donation is suggested to cover the cost of supplies.
The finished puppets will take center stage at the Día de los Muertos skeleton procession on October 31.
This family-friendly event begins on Halloween day with face painting at Fisher Auditorium at 4:30 p.m. From there, musicians, dancers, and the giant parade puppets will walk through the Oak Grove at 5:45 p.m., ending at the University Museum as the opening reception for the exhibition. All who would like to participate are invited to join the procession and then join us in the museum for music and traditional foods.
