A sugar skull decorating workshop will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at the Hadley Union Building (HUB) Monongahela Room on the IUP campus.
Led by Lisa McCann, Nancy Lopez-Sosa, and Guadelupe Ortiz-Cortez, participants will discover the meaning of sugar skulls (pictured at right, photo credit: Nathaniel C. Sheetz) and their significance in Day of the Dead ofrendas, altars created to honor and memorialize deceased loved ones. Each participant will receive a handmade, blank sugar skull to decorate. Embellishment supplies will be provided.
Registration is requested so that adequate supplies are available, but not required. Register online. Please send any questions to DayOfTheDead.IUP@gmail.com.
The celebration of Day of the Dead will continue with the opening of Walk Through Latin America on October 31. See the complete list of events related to the University Museum exhibition.
