The Lively Arts at IUP is presenting several outreach events to students
and the greater Indiana community, including the opportunity to play
Taiko drums with Drum TAO, dance with the renowned RIOULT Dance NY, and interact with cast members from the hit musical
First up is Drum TAO, Japan's most celebrated company of martial arts drummers. They will present a workshop on the art of traditional Taiko drumming using their unique martial arts style from 5:00–6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in the Rehearsal Studio of the IUP Performing Arts Center.
It is open to high-school-age percussionists as well as IUP students and community members interested in this unique art form. Room in the class is limited; e-mail Jeff Wacker at firstname.lastname@example.org or Michael Kingan at email@example.com to reserve a space.
Just one week later, RIOULT Dance NY begins a five-day residency working with dancers from the community and IUP Dance Theater as the students prepare to join RIOULT on stage in a performance of Fables, a family-friendly piece based on the work of Aesop and the Indian fables of Bidpaj. In addition to working with the dancers who auditioned for a spot in Fables, RIOULT will present three master classes.
If you are interested in your child participating in the February 18 masterclass and/or auditioning for a part in the Fables dance production (to be danced with RIOULT for their February 23 performance in Fisher Auditorium), or for more information, please contact Jeff Wacker at firstname.lastname@example.org. The Friday classes are open to anyone for auditing.
The third upcoming outreach is the opportunity to meet cast members from the hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! in a Q&A-style session when they visit for a performance on March 2. Typically held same day as the show, the time and location will be announced as soon as it is final. This is open to anyone interested in theater, and people are encouraged to contact Jeff Wacker at email@example.com if you would like to attend to assure ample space.
