A Reflective Practice Saturday Workshop

This workshop will be held April 2, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Ackerman Hall (room TBA). All IUP Faculty and Teaching Assistants are invited. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Advising is a critical component at the intersection of teaching and learning. Developmental advising can be described as a learning process that contributes to a student’s opportunity to be successful. Skills, characteristics, and knowledge associated with effective teaching are also important for effective advising.

This workshop will engage faculty members in reflective exercises and discussion that will define their advising roles and offer insights about the teaching-advising relationship. Activities will enhance faculty members’ ability to capitalize on the synergy of the teaching-advising connection and to address the advising challenges they face every day. Most importantly, each participant will leave the workshop with an individualized plan to enhance his or her advising, which will optimize student success and provide personal and professional fulfillment.
