Middle States Site Visit: Student Participation Opportunities

Posted on 3/28/2016 9:31:47 AM

IUP students are invited to participate in two open sessions with members of our Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Site Visit team when they come to campus in two weeks. These sessions will be held in the HUB Monongahela Room on Monday, April 11, from 2:30–4:00 p.m. and Tuesday, April 12, from 1:15–2:15 p.m.

These sessions are an opportunity for you to speak and be heard as an IUP student. IUP’s reaffirmation of accreditation process only occurs every 10 years, and student participation is essential. For more information on the various constituents with whom our visiting team will be speaking, please download the full schedule.

Why is accreditation important to me?

IUP’s accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education provides students with several benefits, including:

  • Federal Student Financial Aid: Only institutions with accreditation through a recognized U.S. Department of Education accreditor, such as MSCHE, can offer financial aid (e.g., Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, Federal Work Study)
  • Employment Opportunities: Employers often require employees to hold degrees from an accredited institution
  • Transfer Eligibility: Many colleges and universities only accept transfer credits from institutions accredited by one of the U.S. Department of Education recognized accreditors.
